This first sketch is one I drew and painted last night and it is intended to show a confused eye with that spiraling iris. Someone once said that the eye is the mirror of the soul. I am a Registered Nurse and worked in emergency rooms and trauma departments in four different hospitals over my 26 yr career*. One of the assessments tasks of nurses and doctors is to pay attention to the eye, to the size and shape of the pupil and the retina. This sketch is watercolor on paper.
The second sketch is one I intended to show of the eye of a dreamer, of faraway places, maybe other galaxies. It is acrylic on paper.
The third photo is of the oil painting I painted and named "the eye". I selected a blue eye because my daddy had blue eyes and my oldest daughter has blue eyes and my first husband had blue eyes, and some of my grandchildren [ all minors so I don't show their photos on web] have blue eyes. I guess in a way I think of the blue eye color as being a voice for authority since my daddy was a strict disciplinarian.
OK, my point in posting my photos of this art created as a set, is to make some points about eyes. There is a very sad case in the news in past few days of a man leaving his 22 month old child in the heat of a locked car for 12 hours and the child died as a result of it. I want to write this as a reminder that tiny children have to be EYE-BALLED every few minutes. They are not able to use good judgment or wisdom. Wisdom comes with enduring life, living it. It is not born into a child. That child was helpless-- strapped into a car seat and probably died of heat stroke, where his body temp went sky high from no air circulating and high noon temperatures. I think the father should be charged with child abuse and neglect because his actions directly caused the death of a toddler.
There are verses in the Bible about the eye and I am going to include some of them here:
"He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him". Proverbs 28:22, KJV
"Thy watchman shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when THE LORD shall bring again Zion." Isaiah 52: 8, KJV.
"He that planteth the ear, shall not HE hear? He that formed the eye, shall HE not see? . " Psalms 94:9, KJV
"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with My eye. " Psalms 32: 8, KJV.
"The light of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single [of one mind] thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness? " Matthew 6: 22-23, KJV.
The eye of GOD is not something I would ever attempt to paint an image of because making images of GOD is forbidden in Exodus chapter 20, KJV. This art is not representative of the eye of GOD but merely of humans' eyes as I painted them. MY points about eyes, to sum up are:
1) GOD sees all.
2) Tiny children must be looked at frequently by a grown-up.
3) Eyes tell a lot about any person.
4) When you see a person with no light in their eyes, they need intervention of some sort, because their soul is dying.
